Adaptation

Posted in New Music, Recording |

Just six days ago, I was desperate to try anything to get a new song started.  Over the course of the past two years, I think I’ve finished just one song.  So, out of desperation, I googled, “how to write a song“.  I’ve been writing songs for about eighteen years, and this was very hard for me to type into that search bar.  It felt so much like the scene from Adaptation where Charlie goes to a writing seminar and is neutered by the speaker.

(Disclaimer for kids, there are many many adult words in this clip, as well as an ad you can skip after 5 seconds)

The funny thing is, doing that google search brought me to that video clip, and six days later, I have two brand new songs written.  Starting a third today.

New (old) Song Posted!

Posted in New Music |

Well friends, it’s been a busy year, but one of the most exciting years of my life.  I’ve taken on more of a producer role lately, and haven’t really written much for myself in a while.  You may or may not remember there was a point where I was attempting to write a few more songs to serve as a “book end” to They Reappear a year or so ago.  Well, I wrote one.  It still sounds to me, very much like a part of that collection of songs.  So this one I have simply titled “epilogue”.  I’m not completely sure where my next batch of songs is going to take me, but I am hoping to try new things and get out of my own skin for a while.  If you are reading this right now, I just want you to know how much I appreciate you sticking around through years of musical silence from me.  I often wonder if there is still an audience out there for what I do, but if anyone is reading this, I am thankful that there is.  So thank you so, so much!

PS.  Us musicians typically have an insecure nature, and get a lot of satisfaction out of you passing along our creations.  So, if you like this song, tweet it, post it on Facebook, put it in a Build-A-Bear, whatever.  But please do pass it along!  We always notice, and we always love it.

What’s Next?

Posted in New Music | Tagged , , |

So, I realize that this blog has become very much a hub for Sucré news these past few months.  I hope that’s ok.  I put a lot of my life into this album, and it really is my focus nowadays.  But we have an album that is finished, and a lot of the work has been done already.  So, what’s next?

As soon as I get home, I need to catch up some daily life stuff first- spend time with my wife, spank my dogs, etc.  But I’m also feeling the itch to start writing my own stuff again.  (that bit about the dogs was a joke)  After “They Reappear” was released, I felt very lost and wasn’t sure what to do next with my music.  So I took a year off.  With every day that goes by without writing a song, I get a clearer and clearer idea of what I’d like to do with my next album.  This is very exciting for me, because I will admit right now that I wasn’t entirely sure there was going to be a next album- until now.  That is probably not as dramatic as it sounds, I would continue doing music of course, but I wasn’t sure what shape it would take.  So, I’m feeling more inspired than ever to start making some new music.  I can see it all in my head, and I don’t think this album will take me nearly as long as the last one.  I just want to write the greatest songs I’ve ever written, and keep the focus on that.

Thank you for always supporting me.

New Fort Christmas Song! (Free Download)

Posted in New Music | Tagged , , , , , , , , |

I hope you all are having a wonderful holiday season.  I thought I'd give you all an early Christmas present.  Here's a new Fort Christmas song.  Actually, I wrote it shortly after Elsie and I's wedding, so it's not that new anymore.  I wrote it so I would always remember everything about our wedding day.  I think it captures a lot of the feelings and thoughts that I had at the time.  I really love listening to it; it brings that day to the front of my mind and makes me feel really nostalgic.  Click the "down arrow" on the player to download it.  And if you enjoy this song, PLEASE feel free to embed it on your blog or Facebook page!  I'd greatly appreciate it.
