Posted in Uncategorized |I’ve been blogging about the process of making “A Minor Bird” for the last few years, and thought I’d bring back a few of the entries now that the album is out. Some of these talk in detail about specific songs, and may take on new meaning since you can now actually hear the song. This entry was from July 6th 2011:
We’ve been doing things in a bit of a different order these past couple of days. Darren has had other homework that’s been keeping him busy, so we’ve just been recording vocals. This has been a challenge, but in a very good way. The thing is, Stacy does not cheat in her vocal performances. She does not let me copy and paste to different parts of the song, and she does not settle for something she doesn’t love. Stacy is by far the most musical singer I’ve ever produced. Each vocal line is a hand crafted work of art. There is a lesson to be learned here. Saying that Stacy is a gifted singer is an insult. She has been gifted with an amazing work ethic which makes her work endlessly to be a better singer. That is why- even as amazing as she is now- in several years, she will be even better.

Posted in Collaborations |I woke up today to an overwhelming number of tweets from all of you about the release of “A Minor Bird”. Today is a very exciting and emotional day for all three of us, and one that we will never forget. I noticed that the album broke into the top 100 on iTunes, and is still moving up! This is happening because YOU bought the album. And I can’t tell you how thankful we are for everyone of you who read this blog, and buy my/our music. Every single person that purchases the album invests in the future of this band. THANK YOU!
There are two unsung heros of this release that I have to mention. Brandon Chamberlain- our manager, and Elsie Larson- my lovely wife. Without those two, the album would not have come out. I mean that literally. We wouldn’t have an album without their help. So please send them your appreciation as well. Got a busy day today, so I’m going to get to it.

Elsie and I have been in LA for a few days now. Darren and Stacy will arrive on Monday, but I wanted to get here early to rehearse with the string players ahead of time. I met with two of the girls last night and our rehearsal was fun, but mostly useless. I say useless because the girls knew their parts better than I knew mine, and I left feeling like perhaps I should have stayed home and practiced a little more… But it was fun!

It’s going to be a busy week here, and I’m going to try my best to take it all in, and just enjoy myself. I tend to spend a lot of time wondering what’s about to go wrong, and how I’m going to fix those things that could go wrong. This release is really important to me, and worrying is my way of trying to use my brain to keep everything in line. But it doesn’t work. That’s why I’m glad Elsie is here with me. She keeps me in a positive mindset, and gives me just enough distraction to feel like I’m enjoying myself. And I am so far.

“A Minor Bird” Album Preview

Got a lot of exciting things coming up this month with Sucré, and I hope that a lot of you will be a part of it! The first Sucré album will be released in less than a week.
