Three More…

In just a few short days this tour will be over.  Touring is a very bizarre thing when you dissect certain elements about it.  For one, I didn’t really know any of the guys in Canon Blue when I started this tour.  I had met Dan once years ago, but had never met Vince or Graham.  By the end of this tour, I will have spent more time with these people than I’ve spent with my family and best friends combined for the last year.

There’s another element that also creates an unusual dynamic.  I’ve covered thousands of miles with these new friends.  And I have only vague recollections of where I’ve been.  Do you remember the scene towards the end of Fight Club, where Edward Norton’s days and nights are bleeding together, along the cities he was visiting?  “Have I been awake?  Have I been asleep?”- that’s very much what touring can feel like.  Oddly enough, this has been one of the best times in my life, but the details seem like a fog.  I can tell you with some certainty that this is where I am today:

Though now that I look at it, I may have taken this yesterday…

What’s Next?

Posted in New Music | Tagged , , |

So, I realize that this blog has become very much a hub for Sucré news these past few months.  I hope that’s ok.  I put a lot of my life into this album, and it really is my focus nowadays.  But we have an album that is finished, and a lot of the work has been done already.  So, what’s next?

As soon as I get home, I need to catch up some daily life stuff first- spend time with my wife, spank my dogs, etc.  But I’m also feeling the itch to start writing my own stuff again.  (that bit about the dogs was a joke)  After “They Reappear” was released, I felt very lost and wasn’t sure what to do next with my music.  So I took a year off.  With every day that goes by without writing a song, I get a clearer and clearer idea of what I’d like to do with my next album.  This is very exciting for me, because I will admit right now that I wasn’t entirely sure there was going to be a next album- until now.  That is probably not as dramatic as it sounds, I would continue doing music of course, but I wasn’t sure what shape it would take.  So, I’m feeling more inspired than ever to start making some new music.  I can see it all in my head, and I don’t think this album will take me nearly as long as the last one.  I just want to write the greatest songs I’ve ever written, and keep the focus on that.

Thank you for always supporting me.

When We Were Young Official Music Video

Posted in Collaborations, Videos | Tagged , , , , , , , , , |

We started working on this back in December I believe.  I just remember it was freezing cold on the third floor of Red Velvet.  We had collected as many mirrors and lamps as we could find on the second floor, and just began experimenting and seeing how we could play with different kinds of lighting.  Everything you see in the video was created organically with mirrors, projectors, and lights.

Darren was directing the whole thing, and I think he did a pretty amazing job.  He’s become quite the director in recent years!  My wife Elsie designed the beautiful dress that Stacy is wearing.  It was fashioned out of several vintage wedding dresses.  And all I did was play with the light dimmer…

I also need to give a huge thanks to Brook Linder and Clay Mason for shooting this!  You guys did an amazing job.

Thanks for reading.
